The Kooser Program: The Hidden Impact of Hearing Loss
The Hidden Impact of Hearing Loss is a supportive educational one day program for individuals with hearing loss and family members. It is a fun interactive workshop offering information on hearing, hearing loss, communication and tools for the work environment. We encourage participants to bring a communication partner.
This workshop is a unique opportunity to increase enjoyment of life through improved hearing and communication. The educational component as well as the communication strategies and coping mechanisms have assisted individuals with hearing loss in easing communication with family, co-workers and friends. Participants overwhelmingly report the activity to be worthwhile and many experience life changing results.
The Mission is to enhance and empower the life of individuals with hearing loss and their families through education and support services.
The goal of the program is to increase awareness of the hidden impact of hearing loss and how to effectively cope. The workshop allows participants an opportunity to discuss issues with others who have hearing loss.
The program was developed by Cathy Kooser, a licensed social worker, who has a severe high frequency sensorineural hearing loss. Cathy obtained her bachelor's degree in social work from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio and her master's degree from the University of Cincinnati.
